NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) - Several inmates suspected of making and distributing drugs at Elayn Hunt Correctional Center have been transferred to the Louisiana State Penitentiary at Angola, according to sources. The transfers follow a series of deaths at the prison, which is located south of Baton Rouge.

ST. GABRIEL, La. (WAFB) - The WAFB I-TEAM learned Friday the Department of Corrections transferred inmates to Angola who are suspected of making and selling drugs at Elayn Hunt Prison. Sources told the I-TEAM there were major shakedowns the week of Christmas after an inmate died of a suspected drug overdose on Christmas Eve.

Jeff Landry said in an executive order declaring a state of emergency that will allow the prison to swiftly reopen a notorious part of the facility that was shuttered due to significant safety concerns.
